Dawoon Jeong, MFA

Environmental impacts are the main source of Dawoon Jeong’s visual and spiritual motivation. Capturing imagery from the marine ecosystem, she extracts shapes from microscopic images of corals. Organisms' initial patterns grow regularly or erratically in nature, but they can be transformed by environmental factors such as climate change. These factors are the main consideration for the visualized patterns and materials that Dawoon uses to represent an organism’s movement. The polymer clay can be organically formed by hand as pattern, color and texture can be translated onto its surface to bring out miscellaneous sensations. Through experimentation, these materials reflect and depict the form and movement of organisms. Dawoon explores material combinations to connect and support these seemingly living and delicate objects.
