MELTDOWNS + MIXUPS
SUNY New Paltz Metal Program’s creative collaborative, denizen, presented Meltdowns + Mixups, featuring a virtual exhibition of student work and resulting dialogue.
Meltdowns bring to mind a myriad of disasters - events that make waves, or cause failure, requiring us to invent ways to move forward. Meltdowns can also offer a hopeful rebirth, a chance to build anew, and while mixups can confuse and provoke, the best circumstances lead to a meeting of minds. Through studio engagement and collaboration, these artists share the design experience, the editing process, the documentation of stops and starts, miscues and resolutions: A virtual exhibition emerges. Meltdowns + Mixups collectively tackles confusion, takes risks, repairs mistakes, and proposes new ones. These unexpected outcomes are celebrated and evident in the works presented. denizen’s joint exploration is intended to stimulate critical engagement and reflection on our practice.
